Road works note: the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass, between Hartley and Mount Victoria, is closed for rebuilding until around mid-2027. Until it reopens we run via the Darling Causeway or the Bells Line of Road, and our pickup times allow for the extra time.

Blayney is the main town and administrative centre of Blayney Shire, with 2,997 residents at the 2021 census. The area was first known as Kings Plains. A village named Blayney was laid out on the present site in 1843. The railway arrived in the 1870s, after which Blayney took over from Carcoar as the district's main service centre. Today it is a farming and industrial town with a Nestlé Purina pet food plant, a large inland container terminal and strong links to the nearby Cadia gold and copper mine.
Blayney sits about 863 m above sea level on the Central Tablelands, roughly 35 km south-west of Bathurst and about 35 km south of Orange. It lies on the Mid-Western Highway and the Main Western railway line, and the Belubula River passes near the town. The Cadia-Ridgeway Mine is about 20 km south-west of Orange, in the hills to the north-west of Blayney.
The heritage streetscape of Adelaide Street includes the Court House, churches and the 1880s Royal Hotel, which was once a Cobb and Co changing station. A self-guided heritage walk covers these buildings. Other drawcards are the Platform Arts Hub at the heritage-listed railway station, Heritage Park and the CentrePoint indoor aquatic centre. The annual Sculptures by the Bush art trail runs each April. Carcoar Dam is a short drive south-west.
A taxi over 242 km runs on the meter with no set price, and few will come out to Blayney for a pre-dawn start. Public transport means a coach or drive to the nearest station, a train to Central and a change to the airport line with your luggage — and nothing gets you there for an early flight. Driving yourself means about 3 hr 11 min each way plus airport parking for every day you are away. See the full comparison.
